nPEP can prevent infection after you
are exposed to HIV
What if you are exposed to HIV?
Non-occupational Post Exposure Prophylasis
nPEP
Safer sex is the goal, but accidents do happen.
Maybe the condom broke, maybe you had unsafe sex against your
will, maybe you were intoxicated. "Non-occupational
post exposure prophylaxis" is called nPEP for short.
It means taking anti-HIV medicine for a month to prevent getting
infected after an unsafe exposure to HIV. For best results,
it must be started immediately, but it helps if started within
72 hours.
If you've been exposed and you want to talk
about it, come to LBCC even if you don't have an appointment;
our RN will do her level best to get you the care you need.
We're open every morning except Sunday.
