Clinic's Anonymous HIV testing program offers the regular
EIA test (also used for tissue transplant testing), in addition
to the 20-minute test.
The one-week test is considered 99.9% accurate.
Studies reported by OraSure Technologies, Inc.
conclude that OraQuick is 99.9% accurate." Therefore,
if the result of the OraQuick test is negative,
and the client is out of the six month "window,"
they can feel quite certain about a negative result.
However, if the OraQuick test result is positive,
it is called a preliminary positive" and must be
confirmed by the regular blood testing procedure (EIA, confirmed
by Western Blot and/or IFA tests) which will take one week.
The procedure includes verification of a "positive"
result by a pathologist and, although it takes a week instead
of 20 minutes, a positive result is verified.
